The end of the week, the end of the day.

And so it happened, at the end of the day, that the teachers had a meeting in the office conference room, and therefore would not be teaching.  And so, I took atll the fourth graders that I'd usually see in the afternoon, and showed them the rest of the movie "Because of Winn Dixie."  The kids had read the book, so this was a culminating activity.  I've also got about three hours of other stuff on VHS in case there should be a sudden blizzard and I need to keep them entertained until late tonight.

"You can't hold on to anything that wants to go.  You just got to love it while you got it."  That's what the old lady says at almost the end of the movie.  I could see kids tearing up in the classroom as the movie got close to the end and the girl was making a list of the ten things you'd need to know to recognize her dog.  I think it's cool that Dave Matthews was in the movie.

After a vote, the kids decided that instead of a Wishbone episode, they'd rather see the beginning of "The Adventures of Milo and Otis."  It's narrated by Dudley Moore, and if you haven't seen it, it's pretty funny.
